Overcome with sadness at the passing of one of my favorite writers, I spent the last few days listening to no one else. Jason Molina's voice was like magic, and his words combined with his voice equaled transcendence. I didn't know him personally, only chatted with him a few times. But I know his work, in particular the Songs: Ohia material from The Lioness through Magnolia Electric Co. I know those songs, I've studied them like maps of old, that charted dark and scary places that most never venture to, few come back from.
In Jason's words: "Almost no one makes it out."
This little song of mine doesn't hold a candle to the majesty of his craftsmanship, but it's what came to me. I hope it is at least honest. I hope there are many more Molina tracks to yet be revealed. I know he was constantly at work. I hope he died with a moment of peace and clarity. His work has given me many of them.
Thank you Jason. love -m
